Pocket Pivot Review / Buyable Gap Ups
Could you briefly explain, for the sake of education, if there is a significant difference in the gap up of FFIV and the gap up of LVS (as of October 28, 2010)?

Q: Could you briefly explain, for the sake of education, if there is a significant difference in the gap up of FFIV and the gap up of LVS. While FFIV was spotted as a buy gap up, was LVS also a buy and if not why not? I think other subscribers could learn from this as well.

A: FFIV gap up occurred after a brief consolidation whereas LVS occurred after an uptrend. While both qualify as buyable gap ups since both stocks have strong fundamentals, the LVS gap up strikes us as extended because it occurred after a nearly 4-month uptrend in the stock. We would wait to see what the stock does from here as it may pause then issue a constructive continuation pocket pivot which could possibly be bought.
