SSS - Thoughts on the Short-Side for Wednesday October 26 2011
GMCR has undercut the 63.03 low of April of this year, a logical "undercut & rally" point. Also, Whitney Tilson, formerly of "short NFLX all the way up" fame, announced he is short the stock. Time for a short-term low in the stock? The stock has been a very profitable short for us, so be mindful of spots where it makes sense to take some profits, at leat.
AAPL is clinging to the 400 price level. It's fate will likely be determined by the general market, but the whiff of QE is in the air here, so anything could happen.
BIDU still can't get back above its 50-dma, and earnings are due out tomorrow after the close. Meanwhile SINA has the same problem as BIDU as it cannot get back aboves its 50-dma either. In both cases, the 50-dma is an upside guide for a stop in any short position
The market acts like it wants to continue lifting, so while GMCR can make your day on the short side, shorting into a persistent rally has its dangers. It may make sense to back away from the short side until the situation clarifies here as the market knows the Eurocrats may take longer to come up with a "final solution" than by today's promised deadline, yet it does not want to sell off.
